This one-way interpretive, overnight tour from Banff to Vancouver (or Vancouver to Banff) takes you through the still-wild west of Alberta and B.C.

Discover Banff Tours Summer Sightseeing and Transport

The first pioneers attempted to lasso the wilds of Western Canada with long stretches of railway track. The steep rocky terrain fought back and, at times, the mountains seemed too enormous to tame.

With blood, sweat, tears and dynamite they carved a path through the sky-piercing peaks. The route is still used to this day. Now you can journey in modern comfort in a deluxe mini coach, traveling 850kms through four of Canada’s earliest national parks.

This two-day guided sightseeing tour includes transportation in a comfortable modern vehicle, overnight accommodation in Kamloops, and breakfast and lunch.

Tour highlights include stops at Lake Louise, the famous Spiral Tunnels, Giant Cedars Boardwalk, the Last Spike, D Dutchman Dairy, Kamloops and Hope.

Vancouver to Banff Tour Reviews

This interpretive tour follows the trail of the pioneers of Western Canada at they forged their way to the west coast. Travelling through four of Canada’s earliest national parks and experiencing the grandeur of Columbian and Canadian Rocky Mountains.

The best parts of the tour for most people include the following:

1

Westbound - Banff to Vancouver (Wed/Fri/Sun)

Day 1: Banff to Kamloops

Departing Banff in the morning your first stop will be at picturesque Lake Louise where you will have a chance to photograph the turquoise waters and glacier capped mountains. From there you cross the Continental Divide into British Columbia and make a stop to view the famous Spiral Tunnels, then onto the Columbia Mountains.

One of the highest road accessed points in Glacier National Park is Rogers Pass, where you will stop to learn about this key area in Canada’s railway history, then lunch a short distance down the road at the Giant Cedars boardwalk – a unique old growth rainforest in the interior of BC.

In the afternoon you will visit the Last Spike – the historic point of completion of the Canadian Pacific Railway. Then on to the world famous D Dutchman Dairy and farmers market in Sicamous (save room for ice cream!).

You will arrive at your hotel in Kamloops close to 5pm, giving you ample time to refresh and explore the downtown area.

Day 2: Kamloops to Vancouver

Departing Kamloops after breakfast (included) you will follow the Coquihalla Highway south, through the arid climate of the interior, climbing approximately 1000m into the Cascade Mountain Range at Coquihalla Summit.

After this you will descend into Gold Rush country, making a stop in the historic town of Hope. You then follow the Fraser River into bustling downtown Vancouver where you arrive around lunchtime, leaving the afternoon to explore Vancouver on your own.

Tour Highlights: Lake Louise, Spiral Tunnels, Rogers Pass, Giant Cedars Boardwalk, The Last Spike, D Dutchman Dairy, Kamloops, Hope, Vancouver.

2

Eastbound - Vancouver to Banff (Mon/Thurs/Sat)

Day 1: Vancouver to Kamloops

Your journey through Western Canada begins with an afternoon departure from the biggest city in British Columbia – Vancouver. We follow the Fraser River out of the city through the lush river delta and up the towering peaks of the Cascade Mountains, taking a short rest in the town of Hope.

After our rest stop we continue up into the sub-alpine of the Cascades until our high point of the day, Coquihalla Summit.

We then descend into the arid BC interior, watching the lush forest turn to desert where we reach Kamloops and our hotel for the night, historic railway era Plaza Hotel, right in the heart of downtown Kamloops.

You aim to arrive a little after 7pm, plenty of time to freshen up and explore the city and choose your dinner (not included) from the areas many restaurants.

Day 2: Kamloops to Banff

In the morning you will visit the Last Spike – the historic point of completion of the Canadian Pacific Railway. Then on to the world famous D Dutchman Dairy and farmers market in Sicamous (save room for ice cream!). One of the highest road accessed points in Glacier National Park is Rogers Pass, where you will stop to learn about this key area in Canada’s railway history, then lunch a short distance down the road at the Giant Cedars boardwalk – a unique old growth rainforest in the interior of BC.

In the afternoon a stop is made in Yoho National Park to marvel at National Historic site of the Spiral Tunnels – the solution to safe rail travel through the steep Kicking Horse Pass. We then continue on to the iconic Banff National Park where we visit Lake Louise in the late afternoon.

You will have time to take a few pictures at the lakeshore of the turquoise waters and glacier capped peaks before ending your journey either in Lake Louise or in the town of Banff.

We expect to arrive around in the Banff townsite by 6:30pm local time, just in time to check out one of Banff’s many restaurants.
