Sunshine Meadows Banff

Banff’s biggest gondola (8-passenger cabin capacity) and the scenic Alpine Shuttle take you from the mountain base up to the Village at 2,164m (7,100 feet). From here, ride the Standish quad chairlift to over 2,400 m (7,875 ft) to experience 360 degree views of the Rocky Mountains that surround you. This is the highest gondola / chairlift access sightseeing elevation in the Banff and Lake Louise area!

At the top, catch even more breathtaking scenery from the Standish viewpoint platform and take in the view of the three high-alpine lakes; Larynx, Grizzly and Rock Isle. Sunhine Meadows has some of the best walking and hiking trails in the Rockies!

Be sure to grab lunch and a cold beverage at the infamous Mad Trapper’s Smokehouse or opt to take a picnic lunch.

Please note that the gondola and shuttle operate on different days to take you up to the village/chairlift:

Alpine via Gondola: Friday – Monday (8:00 am – 6:00 pm)
Alpine via Shuttle: Tuesday – Thursday (8:00 am – 6:30 pm)
Alpine Standish Chairlift: 7 Days Week (8:15 am – 5:00 pm)

The Sunshine Summer Gondola is located at the Sunshine Village Ski & Snowboard Resort, approximately 20 minutes west of the townsite of Banff. Detailed driving directions will be included in your booking confirmation.

There is also a paid shuttle bus that runs between the Town of Banff and Sunshine Village.

The ride from the base area to the village on both the Gondola and the Scenic Alpine Shuttle takes approximately 25 minutes.
The Gondola runs seasonally from Fridays to Mondays, and a shuttle bus is available on Tuesdays to Thursdays.

Sunshine Meadows features over 6 named and interconnecting routes on 12 kms (7.5 miles) of hiking trails for guests to explore.
On your visit, be on the watch for the red fox between Rock Isle Lake and the Village or the loon on Laryx Lake, and listen for the tiny pika by the Mt. Standish Sightseeing Chairlift.

  • Children under 10 (or those who can’t reach the restraining device on their own) must be accompanied by an adult on the chairlift.
  • Infants must be restrained (e.g. in a carseat, carrier, backpack), and parents/adults in care of the infant must be able to ride the chairlift hands free.
