Rappel and hike through a world of ice on this one-of-a-kind Canadian Rockies adventure.

After meeting your guides and other participants at the trailhead, you’ll hike to the start of your unique slot canyon adventure. Then you’ll begin the canyon descent including multiple ice rappels down frozen waterfalls. The entire canyon takes approximately two hours to descend.

Your professional guide will teach, assist, and coach you on how to safely manoeuvre and rappel down frozen waterfalls, and through a variety of different slot canyons frozen in mid-stream. A truly unique winter ice adventure and the only experience of its kind in the Canadian Rockies. Escape the crowds and experience something completely different.

Never tried rappelling before, no problem! The guides will teach you all the necessary skills, and our canyons are progressive in their nature. That means they start off easy and grow in the length of the rappels, allowing you to grow your confidence as you descend.

No experience, no problem

This winter canyoning tour is family friendly, and great for participants of all ages, young or old. The guides will teach you all the necessary skills, and the rappels will start off easy and grow in the length of the rappels, so you can grow your confidence as you descend.

The tours commences at 9am and 1pm, and run for approximately four hours, including a 45 minute hike from the trailhead to the starting point. Please allow up to an additional two hours if taking the shuttle transport from Banff or Canmore.
The tour includes an optional shuttle service from Banff or Canmore, cookies and hot chocolate, and all canyon specific gear and equipment including ice crampons, a helmet, harness, and all technical rope equipment. Your small group tour will be led by a professional guide in a small group of up to 8 people.
Guests can self-drive or take a shuttle service from Banff and Canmore. For guests that are self-driving, please meet your guide at Heart Creek Canyon Parking Lot. From here, you’ll follow the shuttle to the starting point at the Troll Falls Trailhead in Kananaskis. Full driving directions will be included in your booking confirmation. Please note, if you are self-driving, a Kanaskis Conservation Pass must be purchased. An optional shuttle service is available from Banff and Canmore, please ensure that this is selected at the time of booking.
Good winter outdoor clothing and good winter boots are essential. The following list covers a wide range of possibilities. should sunny warm conditions be forecast some items may be unnecessary. Remember that weather can change quickly in the mountain so even if the day starts out warm you may still need extra layers in the afternoon.

The recommended clothing and equipment list includes: a small daypack, a winter jacket, snow pants, warm hat, winter gloves, winter boots or warm hiking boots (good outdoor tread preferred), a water bottle and sunglasses. You may also want to bring some extra clothing layers.

Participants do not require any previous rope or rappelling experience, they must though be relatively comfortable with heights. a moderate level of fitness for the approach hike up to the top of the canyon. Participants should be comfortable with hiking for approximately between 30 to 60 minutes.
There is a 48 hour cancellation policy, which allows you to change/cancel or refund your booking up to 48 hours outside your booked tour (up to 7 days for group bookings).
Tips are not expected, but are certainly appreciated. If you think your guide did a wonderful job and would like to indicate that with a tip, it will be graciously accepted.

  • The minimum age is 12 years.
  • No experience required, but all guests must be capable of moderate to advanced physical activity and comfortable with heights.
  • A standard release of liability is required for all participants. A parent or guardian must complete a liability release for persons under 18 years of age.
  • Children under 18 years of age must be accompanied by a parent/guardian on tour.
  • Photo ID may be required for identity verification.
