"An exciting once in a lifetime adventure! The dogs are adorable and fun to spend the afternoon with." - Samantha , Reservations Agent, Discover Banff Tours

The tour runs for approximately 2.5 hours, including the 25 minute helicopter ride and two hour dogsled tour (with one hour of dogsledding).

For guests being picked up in Banff please allow four hours in total including transport.

Guests will enjoy a 25 minute scenic helicopter tour over the Goat and Sundance Ranges of Banff National Park into or out of Spray Lakes and a two hour dogsled tour that follows the pristine mountain trails of Goat Pond for 10kms. The dogsled tour component includes a 30 minute introduction and instruction, an exhilarating hour of dog sledding fun, and a 30 minute campfire at the end of the tour to enjoy hot beverages and tasty treats.

Please note that the tour times reflects the dogsledding times, and that the helicopter will either fly you to or from the dog sledding site. The 25 minute sightseeing flight is not available to fly into Spray Lakes for the 9am tour or out of Spray Lakes for the 3pm tour.

The tour picks up from most hotels in Banff. Pick up is usually 45 minutes before your tour time (earlier for the first tour of the day) and you need to allow about 4 hours from pick up to drop off. Options to self-drive to Canmore or be picked up in Canmore may be available, please enquire.
The self-driven sleds are the most popular option and allow you to drive your very own dog team along with your friends and family without an instructor. Please bear in mind that dog sledding is a “sport” and does require some physical activity while driving the sled, the person driving will need to be fairly fit as they will be required to get off the sled at some points and help push it up some of the steeper sections of the trail.

The guide driven sleds are ideal for anyone that would prefer to leave the driving to an experienced instructor (eg: guests with any physical challenges or medical conditions that may make driving a sled unsafe or uncomfortable, or heart conditions or recent injuries). Instructor driven sleds can also be an excellent choice for visitors who may have a lot of questions and would like to learn even more about dog sledding. This option allows guests to participate at their own comfort level such as driving under the supervision of the guide or just standing on the back and letting the instructor control the sled.

There is a maximum of four people per sled, with a maximum combined weight of 370lbs on a sled with an instructor and a maximum combined weight of 500lbs for a sled without an instructor (self-driving).

There are no age or height restrictions to ride in a sled but taller people may have to bend their knees slightly to feel more comfortable in the sled. Height and weight restrictions may apply to children wanting to drive the sleds.

The comfortable handcrafted sleds are waterproof and windproof, and are equipped with beautiful, warm Pendleton merino wool blankets, water resistant sled bags and 6 inch upholstered cushions.

For your safety, comfort and enjoyment, please dress appropriately for your dog sledding tour. All guests must wear snow pants, a winter jackets, warm winter boots, a warm toque/beanie/hat that covers your ears, warm gloves or mittens, wool socks, warm under-layers, a scarf/something to cover your face and goggles or sunglasses. A detailed list of what to wear and what not to wear will be included in your booking confirmation. Snow pants, winter jackets and warm winter boots are available for rent if needed.

The huskies are pack of beautiful, intelligent, personable, happy, healthy, trustworthy and eager sled dogs who are absolutely head-over-heals in love with their job! There will be many opportunities to interact and cuddle with the adorable, healthy, well-groomed husky teams.
They are completely different set ups with a different atmosphere and experience. The dogs at Spray Lakes are what we call ‘Hollywood dogs’, all nice and fluffy, and there are a lot of dogs out on the trail at once which makes it a high energy, hands on experience. There are also guides on every third sled so you may be on a sled that is run by you and other guests. If you are looking for something a little more romantic, secluded or less intense, perhaps the Great Divide Tour at Lake Louise is for you.
There is a 48 hour cancellation policy, which allows you to change/cancel or refund your booking up to 48 hours outside your booked tour (up to 7 days for group bookings).
Tips are not expected, but are certainly appreciated. If you think your guide did a wonderful job and would like to indicate that with a tip, it will be graciously accepted.
