No vehicle? No problem! Learn all about the wolfdogs at the Yamnuska Wolfdog Sanctuary from an expert inside one of their enclosures.

During the tour guests are taken inside one of the wolfdog enclosures (behind a short barrier) and given a 30 minute presentation on wolfdogs. Guests can expect to learn general information on wolfdogs and the mission of the sanctuary from an experienced staff member. This is a great way to photograph one of the packs of wolfdogs from inside their enclosure as well as have full access to one of the wolfdog experts.

In addition, guests can also enjoy a self-guided Sanctuary Walk to see the other packs of wolfdogs from outside their enclosures.

Please note that there is no interaction with the wolfdogs on this tour. The Wolfdog Sanctuary Interactive Tour is recommended for anyone interested in this.

On the way to the sanctuary we’ll stop at Gap Lake for a jaw-dropping view. You’ll also get to visit the 1875 McDougal Church – the oldest church in Alberta.

The tour begins at 8:30am and brings you back to Banff around 12:30pm, approximately 4 hours.
This tour includes hotel pick-up and drop off in Banff and a guided tour to and from the Wolfdog Sanctuary, with stops at Gap Lake and the McDougal Church. The experience at the Sanctuary includes a 30 minute introductory talk with one of the experienced staff members, to understand more about wolfdogs and what the sanctuary does. Guests will be taken into a closed off section of the Engadine enclosure to view a pack of high content wolfdogs. In addition, guests will also be able to explore the entire sanctuary on a self-guided walk to view the 20+ wolfdogs on site.
We pick up from most hotels in Banff, and you can select your preferred pick-up location during the booking process. For drop offs, our guide will ask you on the way back where you would like to be dropped off either in town or at your hotel.
The tour runs daily from Thursday to Monday, as the Sanctuary is closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
No, this tour does not involve any interaction with the wolfdogs. For guests interested in this, we recommend the Wolfdog Sanctuary Interactive Tour (please note that this tour does not include any transport to or from Banff).
At every stop you will have the opportunity to get off the bus and stretch your legs. The Sanctuary presentation will require guests to stand outside for 30 minutes, and the self-guided walk around the Sanctuary will be at your own pace.
We recommend dressing warmly, as you will be outside for the duration of your visit at the Sanctuary.
There is a 48 hour cancellation policy, which allows you to change/cancel or refund your booking up to 48 hours outside your booked tour (up to 7 days for group bookings).
Tips are not expected, but are certainly appreciated. If you think your guide did a wonderful job and would like to indicate that with a tip, it will be graciously accepted.
