I will be in Banff

Changing Seasons

Living in Banff for almost 4 years, you would think I would be used to the transition from winter to summer. Yet every year I am still blown away by how much the area changes and goes from being a beautiful white winter wonderland to a mesmerizing blend of colors from the greens to blues to browns. It is like stepping into another world.

Working down at Blue Canoe, I get the privilege of watching this slow transformation every day - the snow melting away to reveal the mysterious grassy bald patch on Mt Norquay, the frozen Bow River melting and becoming an amazing shade of blue you will not see anywhere else in the world. Every day something is different and makes every day living in Banff unique.

One of the most unique and amazing experiences I have had in Banff is canoeing on the glacial waters of Bow River. I have taken many friends and family out for a paddle to get away from the township and out into nature where you can really appreciate the beauty of the Bow Valley. It is a true Canadian experience paddling a canoe on glacial waters in the Rocky Mountains!

However, being from Australia, when I see blue water I immediately want to jump in. It seems natural. Which is why my first swim in the Bow River is an event I will never forget! I don't think my body has ever been so confused in my life! The water is so blue and enticing, yet at best it gets to around 5 degrees Celsius. No more than 3 seconds in the water and I was swimming back to shore at the speed of light! But it's these memories that will make my time in Banff unforgettable and something I will recommend to people for years to come.
