I will be in Banff
Beaver Dam so big it can be seen from Space!
My name is Lyndsay and I moved to Banff from England many years ago. The animals here in Canada are very different, of course, from those we get in England and I continue to be both amazed and fascinated by some of these critters.
Just the other day I read a great article about the Beaver. Now, the Beaver is known to build dams but I had no idea just how big they could get. This article was about a Beaver dam that can be seen from space and it’s right here in Alberta.
This is thought to be the biggest Beaver dam in the world, over half a mile long and did I mention it can be seen from space! It is longer than the Hoover dam.
It is thought that the Beavers have been working on this dam for up to 20 years.
The Beavers in Banff have had a rough time over the years but their number are on the rise, look out for them in the Vermillion lakes.
If, like me, you find the animals of this area truly fascinating why not join us on an Evening Wildlife Safari to learn more about them and maybe catch a glimpse or two.
